Itinerary

ITINERARY (please note days may be swapped around due to weather conditions)

Day 1: Depart from London Gatwick – Calgary, Canada. Drive though the Canadian Rockies to our accommodation in Banff National Park.

Day 2: Orientation day in Banff. Relaxation, soaking in the natural hot springs and shopping in the mountain village.

Day 3: Dog sledding with the Huskies & Tobogganing. This is the most amazing day starting with a kennel tour where we meet 150 dogs ranging from Hollywood movie star Siberian Huskies to the ancient Inuit Huskies.

The dogs have the most beautiful temperaments and absolutely love cuddles and kisses! We learn how to harness and handle the dogs and then the ultimate adventure – we ‘mush’ ~ (drive) our own team of husky dogs through the beautiful snow trails, stopping for a hot BBQ lunch and Tobogganing fun in the afternoon before ‘mushing’ all the way home!

Day 4: Igloo Building & Snow Shoeing – yes we build a real Inuit igloo! This really is a fabulous experience carving the blocks of ice and learning how to balance them together – symmetry is definitely a challenge! In the afternoon we go Snowshoeing walking (and cart-wheeling!) through a winter wonderland of snow.

Day 5: Skiing/Snowboarding at Sunshine Village, Banff – over 3,300 acres of snow across three mountains, it is one of North America’s premier resorts.

The children have skiing or snowboarding lessons in the morning and then we have team races and fun competitions in the afternoon out on the trails, from beginners to advanced.

Day 6: Caving & Ice Walking – In the morning we descend into the caves in Grotto Mountain, a 4km long limestone wonder created by huge volumes of ‘melt’ water from extinct glaciers. In the afternoon we hike on steel walkways built into the Johnston Canyon walls, travelling through prime wildlife habitats and exploring breathtaking ice waterfalls. An introduction to ‘real’ ice before our exciting finale on day 7.

Day 7: Ice Skating  – We kit out the children with real Canadian ice skates and helmets and the children enjoy the wonderful experience of skating outdoors with the mountains in the background – a truly memorable morning for everyone. Afternoon is spent souvenir shopping and our end of week party with games and awards.

Day 8: Arrive back from Calgary – London Gatwick.
